Hi Crystal, while it would be impossible for me to be 100% sure my answer is yes. Get any important data, files & passwords backed up ASAP. I would of course recommend you do this regardless of whether your PC is showing signs of failure. My machine died quite literally without warning. By died, I mean it wouldn't even POST so I could not access the BIOS, let alone load the operating system.

On the filp side, because it was the mainboard that failed I was able to recover data from my hard disk using another machine.

50% of the Island's employment relies upon the tax laws of the UK? That's certainlyt something I would also be worried about. As things stand, the UK people seem to be keen to leave the EU. Scotland wants to leave the UK. Personally, I'd like a referendum for England to get independance but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Hi James, if any offense has been caused then I am sorry. Jonathan is, however, correct in stating my issue is not with the Channel Islands per se, but with HMRC. Allowing VAT free imports for small items was/is intended to make it easy for individuals to send items. It's not intended for huge companies to evade millions of pounds in duty and by doing so gain an overwhelming advantage over domestic businesses.

A retraction of the incorrect statements has been posted.

Why is everyone so bothered about Woolworths?
Ok so jobs were lost but the UK is a big place and there are plenty more jobs...
Once VAT hits the islands we're Stuffed. Totally Stuffed, Loads of companies will close and ALOT more jobs will be lost.
I live on one of the smallest islands, and a fair few companies here will close and they make up about 40-50% of the jobs on the island!!
So I think that you mainlanders should stop talking about stuff you don't understand and leave us Islanders alone.

Dear Mary,

Unless you are a Pro-Merchant you cannot create new listings. You have 3 options:

(1) upgrade your account and list the item yourself,
(2) wait for someone else to create the listing (A Pro-Merchant),
(3) forget about selling it on Amazon, and use Ebay.

Hi Ali, wow, this was an old post, but I do have an answer. It appeared I didn't have a penalty. Check out these stats:

<img src="http://www.tomcatuk.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/december2010.jpg" alt="Analytics December 2010" />

<img src="http://www.tomcatuk.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/january2011.jpg" alt="Analytics January 2011" />

Notice the traffic drops significantly on December 5th 2010 and does not return until January 28th 2011. These dates coincided with officially announced algorythm changes by Google. There were the usual speculations about both changes, but as far as I could see they made a change in Decembee, then basically undid it again in January.

To answer your other question (I did have to perform a reconsideration request for my employers website which DID have a penalty) you will not hear anything back from Google as to whether a reconsideration request has been successful. You'll notice your traffic coming back if a penalty has been lifted. If they do it, it happens fast in my experience (admitedly on one experience). By fast I mean three days. Also not, if your site does not actually have a penalty, I have heard the request never even makes it to the reconsideration team - it will just be filtered out and ignored (which does make sense).

Hey Andy,

Do keep me posted on when you notice a difference. Btw in their response do they say whether a penalty has or has not been lifted?
I'm considering to do the same for my site. Just need to make a couple more changes before I do!

Regards,
