Thought I'd give Quake II another spin this weekend, only to be presented with this rather spurios error during the install. I wasn't running XP (obviously!) when Quake II came out so I tried Googling the error. As usual, Google showed me a bunch of forum threads, none of which had the actual answer to the problem, just the usual vague collection of head scratching "maybe you should format your hard disk" type responses. Luckily the answer is pretty simple.
Goto Start>Control Panel>Regional & Language Options. Go to the Advanced tab. It'll probably look like this:
Just set it to United Kingdom so it looks like this:

do you happen to have a fix for this using windows 2000? this fix seems only to work for windows xp.
Hey there anonymous! I'll have to be honest and say probably not - I haven't run W2K much and don't have much experience.
The only thing I can suggest trying is to set your country as Republic of Ireland. That used to work for me back in the Win98 days. Once the install is complete, you can switch back to the right regional settings (Q2 shouldn't care about it after the install is done).
